For the fourth consecutive year the Shipley girls’ basketball team is hosting the Toys for Tots Tournament in the Upper School’s Yarnall Gym. First year coach, Jackie Siscone, will lead the girls and its fans to Good Samaritan status. The girls will host this year’s tournament along with Pennwood, Academy Park, and Friends Select on December 12th and 13th. On Friday the 12th at 6 pm, Friends Select will play Academy Park, and at 7:30 pm Shipley will play Pennwood. On Saturday, a consolation game will be played at 6 pm and the winners will play at 7:30pm. An unwrapped toy is requested for admittance. If you do not bring a toy, the cost of admission is $3. The toys will be picked up on the 13th of December by the Marines and will be disbursed before the holidays.
This year Shipley has a young but promising team. There are no seniors, and nine freshmen are on the team, two of whom are starters. However, freshman Rae Goldstein shows great potential. As coach Siscone said, “Rae is the heart and soul of this team. She is a hard worker, and an all-around great player”.
This team has a great foundation to build on, and their future looks bright. Go out, buy a toy, and join the Shipley community on the 12th and 13th, for four enjoyable basketball games.
