Wednesday, 1/17: return exams; hand out stories and begin reference of pronouns, pp.165-167 in CW.

 

For Thursday: read “Death of a Tsotsi” and answer question 5. Bring grammar book to class for the next two weeks.

 

For Fri., 1/19: Do 173-174 and read about case, 175-178.

 

 

For Mon, 1/22: do pp.179-182.

 

For Tues., 1/23: pp.183-187. Introduce adjectives and adverbs, ch.13.

 

For Wed., 1/24: 195-199.

 

For Thurs., 1/25:  Do pp.201-203. Read “Once upon a Time” in class.

 

Fri., 1/26: Quiz on chapters 11 and 12 and 13.

 

 

Mon., 1/29: Read “A Drink in the Passage.” Write an essay (500 words) on a topic TBA. Introduce Tense, Voice, Mood, ch.8.

For Monday, 11/6: Do practice exercises (handouts).

 

Tuesday: quest/tiz on agreement and punctuation. Bring Sound and Sense.

 

For Wed., 11/8: Read “Loveliest” on p.149 and answer questions 1-3; read “Stopping” on 150 and answer #1-2 (you may jot answers down in your book or write them out).

 

For 11/9: “My Number” on 158 and questions 1-3; “I Had Heard” on 159 and questions 1-4.

 

For 11/10: “For a Lamb” and “Apparently” on 163 and jot down at least four differences between these two poems (you are free to steal from the analysis after the poems to help you). Pick your poem for the exegesis: choices for honors are “Dover Beach” 173; “Since there’s no help” 165; “My mistress’ eyes” 166. You will be working in groups on the poem of your choice in class. For standard, the poem is “a song in the front yard” on pp.348-349. We will work on the poem together in class.

 

 

For 11/13: Write a rough draft of your exegesis. Honors: required length is two pages, about 600-750 words. Standard: 300 word minimum. In class we will peer edit for punctuation. Peer editor will earn quiz grade on his/her correcting.

 

 

Tuesday, 11/14: final draft due. Read “One dignity” on 169 and “’Twas warm” on 170.

 

For Wed, 11/15: Read “Church Going” on 174 and “Ending” and do questions 1-2.

Some topics may benefit from the use of outside sources—such as bringing in other examples of survivor stories or the use of a map for “India in the 1970s.

 

 

When we return from break, we have one week until exams. most of which will be spent on review.
