Westtown Seminar on Teaching
A week-long experience, the Westtown Seminar on Teaching is one of rejuvenation, exploration, and celebration. Living away from home in a boarding school while participating in dynamic lectures and activities, one has the opportunity to reflect on his/her role in education and become nourished mentally, physically, and emotionally. Taking in place in mid-June, the Westtown Seminar comes at a perfect time for educators to contemplate the important work they do.

“I attended the Westtown Seminar on Teaching – a week-long conference dedicated to the renewal and reaffirmation of teachers. As teachers, we were asked to ‘delve into our deepest selves’ to see the connections to the work that we do and to awaken our ‘passion and compassion – the natural language of the soul.’” (Stuart Malcolm)

“The week-long retreat, hosted by David Mallery, gave me the opportunity to remember why I love being a teacher. The seminar created a haven to reflect on various aspects of education. A notable experience at the Westtown Seminar was learning the Japanese martial art, Aikido. In our session, we learned how to respond to an aggressor in a way where we joined in his or her on-coming energy. The techniques we learned allowed us to remain focused and conserve our energy. This was a wonderful metaphor for our dealings in other aspects of our lives, including school.”  (Jen McClintock)
