VAST: Visual Arts as Sources for Teaching is a two-week program at the Philadelphia Museum of Art that is designed to rejuvenate tired teachers. Each summer a different theme is developed. Teachers simply show up each day and VAST takes care of the rest. Each day begins with a slide lecture, presented by the one or more of the museum’s outstanding scholars. Information literally spills over you and you don’t even have to take notes because you are given piles of reference material and notes, organized in a large binder. After the slides, small groups spend time in the galleries or do a hands-on workshop. The afternoon is spent on field trips or with guest speakers. You can take it for graduate credit, Act 48 hours.
“For me, like many of the participants, this was a return visit to the VAST program and it won’t be my last. It rejuvenates your tired soul. Give a gift to yourself and attend a VAST program.” (Kate Chapman)
