The Phillips Exeter Academy Mathematics, Science and Technology Conference
This conference focuses on the exploration of current pedagogical as well as the implementation of technology in mathematics and science classrooms. During this weeklong conference, participants attend two workshops of their choosing, each of which meets for two hours a day. Although this conference takes place at the end of June, it is recommended that interested registrants apply before March.
“I was fortunate enough to attend this workshop two years in a row, during the last week in June. I went with the intent of learning how to use technology in my teaching of mathematics, as, at the time, I had little or no experience. Each teacher signs up for two workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In between these workshops there are many sessions open to all. Another great feature of this workshop is the technology library, where one can sign out a piece of software and try it out on one of the many computers around the room. This was where I played with Geometer’s Sketchpad and the Mathematics Exploration Toolkit. I also had many opportunities to talk with the other teachers present, to find out what they used and how it was implemented into their program. This workshop is worth its weight in gold anyone who loves total immersion in mathematics.” (Kay Graff).
