Shipley’s Super Saturday Raises Over $2000 for Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald House Service Activity
Each year, Super Saturday, an annual fundraising carnival organized by the Upper School Service Organization (SOS), opens its doors to the Shipley community. Undeterred by downed trees and rerouted traffic stemming from Hurricane Isabel, the doors opened to Shipley students and parents, ready for a few hours of featured games, prizes, food, music, a haunted house, and a moon bounce.

Another component of the day’s events is the special invitation extended to students from The Vanguard School to come to their own Super Saturday. The Vanguard students, and their Shipley hosts, have the gym to themselves for two hours of games, moon bouncing, and food.

Students raised over $2000 choosing the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, and a school-based service activity for Ronald McDonald House, as the recipients for the proceeds.

Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing for families, living outside of a 50 mile radius of Philadelphia, whose children are receiving treatment at the city’s hospitals. The Ronald McDonald Service Activity is a group of students and faculty who are committed to preparing and providing a home-cooked meal to the families staying at Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.
