The Upper School String Ensemble was founded in 1997 with three players. Today, the group consists of sixteen students in grades 9 through 12. Participants have between five and ten years of playing experience; several members have won competitions in recent years. The String Ensemble rehearses twice weekly and gives five to eight performances per year. Recent performance venues have included the Chinese Christian Academy, the State Capital Building in Harrisburg, and the Shipley Lower School. Planned performances for the 2005-2006 school year include concerts at Friends School Haverford, the Shipley Alumni Reception, and St. Paul’s School (tentative).
