| Diana Kingman Paintings on Exhibit in Speer Gallery from April 1 - May 4 |
Diana Kingman ’58, known for her lyrical abstractions, will be displaying her work in the Speer Gallery from April 1st through May 4th. Kingman was born in Philadelphia. At age 5 she borrowed her mother’s oils to do a painting of her doll. In 1960 she spent her junior year of college studying art history in Paris. Upon her return she moved to New York, got degree in art history at Columbia, then worked at the Bettmann Archive. In 1965 she went to East Africa on a safari and met her husband, a Canadian. After her second child was in school all day she enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for their four-year program in painting. During art school and a number of years afterward Diana worked in a realistic style, doing still lifes, landscapes and the human figure. In the mid-80’s her work evolved into an abstract style, eventually dropping all references to subject matter. Diana usually paints with acrylics on paper. She has shown her work at galleries in New York, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Lyon, and is represented in a number of corporate and private collections. She currently lives in Berwyn.
