Pennsylvania Ballet II, under the direction of former principal dancer William DeGregory, performed their Accent on Dance program for students in the Upper School. The Pennsylvania Ballet II is a seven member troupe of pre-professional dancers whose outreach program offers school students a chance to watch dancers do strength and stamina building exercises, and see excerpts of the Ballet’s repertoire. The audience particularly enjoyed the audience participation part of the program, where students had a chance to volunteer and try a few steps themselves. One senior was particularly adept at supporting the ballerina in a variety of difficult lifts. It was, however, during the performance of ballet excerpts that the audience truly realized the amazing athletic ability of the dancers. The dancers performed excerpts from Balanchine’s Four Temperaments and Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, and Paquita.
