Good Times at Shipley Past & Present: Alumni Weekend 2006

Members from the Class of ’41 through the Class of ’01 were in attendance for three days of laughter, reminiscing, and lots of good food during Shipley’s Alumni Weekend 2006.

Friday’s all-class luncheon in Brownell kicked off the weekend’s events. After eating, attendees pored through Shipley archival photos to help identify faces and names. Later that evening, classmates gathered in the Lower School courtyard for cocktails and convocation. Alumni enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, entertainment by Shipley’s Madrigals, and the company of old friends and teachers.

Three awards were given to Alumni at the convocation ceremony. Barbara Conole McElroy ’51 was the recipient of The Alumni Association Service Award; Stefanie Shattuck-Hufnagel ’61 received The Shipley School Distinguished Alumni Award; and Dan Rafalin ’91 was the first-ever recipient of The Shipley School Young Alumni Award.

The good weather continued on Saturday for the Alumni Barbeque, which followed a morning of workshops, discussions, and campus tours. With little ones in tow, Alumni enjoyed classic barbeque fare outside of Beechwood while reconnecting with old classmates. On Saturday evening, the fun continued with Shipley class parties taking place all over the Main Line.

Alumni Weekend 2006 came to a close with a moving discussion in the Middle School about diversity at Shipley. Alumni joined current parents, students, and teachers to discuss their experiences, and to share their visions for the future of Shipley’s multicultural identity.

Overall, the weekend was a great success. Alumni young and old celebrated the relationships they formed while attending Shipley, indulging in good food and picture-perfect weather.
