News Shipley hosted the Special Olympics Bocce Ball Tournament for the second year in a row. Students and faculty volunteered their time to help make the event a success. Read more. Shipley's STAND chapter was chosen to represent Pennsylvania schools at a film screening of Darfur Now. Read more. The Madrigals sang with the Villanova Haveners in a special practice session organized by Director Shari Wilson. Read more. Faculty member Chris Simpson is making history at Shipley by teaching a course on the Modern Middle East. Read more.
Sports Highlights Shipley’s fall sports teams had an impressive third season in the Friends Schools League. The girls’ tennis, field hockey, and boys’ and girls’ soccer teams all made it to the championship round of the playoffs, with the girls’ soccer team beating Westtown for their second straight FSL title. Thanks for Giving! Thanks to all those in the Shipley community who collectively purchased 140 pies from MANNA's Pie-in-the-Sky sale. The proceeds helped provide Thanksgiving dinners for 140 families affected by HIV/AIDS. Thanks also to those who collectively donated over 2,200 boxes of macaroni and cheese to the annual Philabundance drive.
Service through Sports Shipley’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams host two tournaments to benefit charities in the month of December. Coaches vs. Cancer Boys’ Basketball Tournament November 30 & December 1 Donations benefit the American Cancer Society. Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a basketball or NBA championship t-shirt autographed by Allen Iverson. Get more information. The Toys for Tots Girls’ Basketball Tournament December 7 & 8 Attendees can bring brand new, unwrapped toys or make a donation at the door to benefit the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots organization. Meet the Artist December 19, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., US Common Room Join artist Lee Stoetzel for morning coffee and a personal introduction to his artwork. A painter, sculptor, and photographer, Lee focuses on our everyday world, often asking the viewer to examine the ordinary from a different, evocative perspective. We Need Your Help! Shipley’s Winter Holiday Drive December 3 – 14 Middle and Upper School families are encouraged to participate in Shipley’s Holiday drive. Winter Teas Afternoon tea by the fire is a Shipley tradition that takes place on Wednesday afternoons in the winter months for Upper School students and faculty.
