GREEK DAY DRESS INSTRUCTIONS
Dear Fifth Grade families,
With our return from spring break the fifth graders have begun their study of ancient Greece. Many of you know that our study of Greece ends in a very special celebration, Greek Day, which also marks the end of the school year and the final year in Lower School. Greek Day this year will be on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Please mark your calendars. You are cordially invited to attend all the festivities or any part of the morning. The final schedule for the morning has not been set as of this time but the presentation of the Laurels will be the culminating event of the morning.
As a part of Greek Day all students are expected to come in Greek dress or chitons. Attached please find instructions for creating the proper attire to be worn by your child and you, if you wish, for Greek Day. These instructions are also posted on the Shipley web site under Fifth Grade.
We realize that creating this costume may be intimidating for some and we wish to assure you that creating a chiton is extremely simple and does not even require sewing. Though some chitons can be more elaborate, all that is necessary is a basic chiton which is essentially a tunic. No sewing skill is required for this project, nor is it necessary to engage the assistance of a professional seamstress. There may even be some “leftover” chitons from years past in your closet or in the closets of families who have had a fifth grader in the past. Feel free to call us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Fifth Grade Teachers
