Shipley Recognized by Greater Philadelphia Cares
The Shipley School was spotlighted in Greater Philadelphia Cares’ January newsletter for the volunteer efforts of 150 students and teachers in October and November. Shipley has been a longstanding partner of Greater Philadelphia Cares, which offers support to communities through their work with non-profit agencies and volunteers. Shipley is happy to support the organization’s efforts, which fall in line with Shipley’s commitment to service learning and encouraging the compassionate participation in the world by each student.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, one of the School’s keystone service events, will take place on Monday, January 15. Lower  School students will participate in activities on campus. Upper, Middle, and some fifth grade students will participate in a variety of service projects in sites throughout the Philadelphia region. At Rosemont Manor, Saunders House, and Bryn Mawr Brighton, students will spend time with elderly members of the community. At Philabundance and SHARE, students will sort food. They’ll prepare meals for people living with HIV/AIDS at MANNA, clean up the historical Johnson House, and sort books for Philadelphia Reads.
