Dear Shipley Parents,

Recently we learned that Goodhart Hall on the Bryn Mawr College Campus, the traditional site for our Upper School graduation, will be under renovation and unavailable to us for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years. Upon reviewing sites, it became clear to us that holding the ceremony on our own campus offers us the best chance of maintaining and perhaps even strengthening the traditions around the event. With this in mind, we have decided to hold the Upper School graduation on Fuller Field (which will be set up with a tent and appropriate acoustical equipment), with the lunch reception afterwards in Yarnall gymnasium, as usual.

Because of the change in venue and some calendar conflicts, we have also decided to move the graduation one week forward to June 6, when the field will be available and to coincide with graduations from other independent schools in the area.

The change of venue and date for the Upper School graduation requires that we also move the dates for the Lower and Middle school closing celebrations. The dates and times for the final celebrations are as follows:

Lower School Wednesday, June 4 Noon dismissal Lower School Gym

Middle School  Monday, June 2 10:00 – 11:30 am Riely Theater

Upper School Friday, June 6 11:00 am Fuller Field

 

Because of space limitations in Riely Theatre, students in grades 6 and 7 will not be required to attend the Middle School Closing Exercises on Monday, June 2. Friday, May 30 will be their last day.

The other Upper School pre-graduation ceremonies, Class Night and Baccalaureate, will take place on June 4 and June 5 at 7:00 pm in Riely Theatre and 8:00 pm at the Church of the Redeemer, respectively.

Of course, we apologize for the late notice of these changes and any inconvenience in planning that they cause, but circumstances made the adjustments unavoidable.
