Spring Quick Notes
Make a Wish Foundation Receives $2,000 from MS Student Council
Middle School has been involved in fundraising efforts for the Make a Wish Foundation. On Friday, April 21, during morning meeting, student council presented a $2,000 check to Rebecca Reid, representing the profits from their winter dance. The students learned from Ms. Reid that this is the 20th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania Chapter of Make a Wish and that it costs an average of $6,500 to grant a child with a life-threatening illness his or her wish.

TV-Turnoff Week
Lower School students have agreed to participate in TV-Turnoff Week 2006, taking place April 24-30. The Organizers of TV-Turnoff Week estimate that children watch four hours of television each day, spending more time in front of the television than in school. TV-Turnoff Week is coordinated by TV-Turnoff Network, an international non-profit organization that encourages families to reduce time in front of the television, and thus promote healthier lives. Students have been sharing what they are doing as alternatives by writing their activities on paper strips. The strip is folded into a ring and attached to a paper chain. The chain is being hung in the front lobby. Here are a couple of answers from students on how they are spending their time, “read, exercise, think, play, do homework, and have a snack,” “dig for rocks,” “climb a tree and read or write a song in the tree.”

Philip Cooke, seventh grade, performed Prelude by Boris Chaykovsky at the recent Tri-County Competition in Upper Darby. While Philip did not win, he did comment, “There were 23 very talented contestants that I was competing against, and I was not expecting to win. The competition was more of a learning thing to help me prepare for future competitions, which I will be trying to win.”
