Ribbon Cutting for New Lower School Turf Field
Wednesday, November 16th, was marked by the weathermen predicting showers, strong winds, and plunging temperatures. Fortunately, it all held off so that the entire Lower School could meet outside on the brand new turf field for the ribbon cutting declaring the field open for play.

Dan Serfass, Athletics Director, remarks, “The newly installed synthetic turf at Shipley’s Lower School will make a real difference in the daily lives of our students. This particular field area is probably used more than any other field on campus. The new surface provides a more practical and safer environment for both our younger and older students to enjoy year round.”

Classes neatly lined up, PreK to 5th grade, and teachers stood alongside as Head of School, Steve Piltch, welcomed everyone to the event and invited Sage Edelstein to come forward to cut the ribbon. Sage won the honor to cut the ribbon after her name was drawn in a lower school raffle.

The money raised from the raffle, $1,339, was donated to the Sacred Heart School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Sacred Heart School, in the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina has opened its doors to 80 new students since the Hurricane.

After the ribbon was cut, students inaugurated the field by walking a lap around the field before heading back to their classrooms.
