Shipley Faculty & Staff Recognized for Excellence
Members of Shipley’s faculty and staff received the following awards for excellence on June 14:

Margaret Bailey Speer Distinguished Teachers’ Award

The Margaret Bailey Speer Distinguished Teachers’ Award is awarded to members of the teaching faculty with at least five years experience, three of which must be at Shipley, who represent the characteristics defined by Miss Speer. These characteristics include the ability to see the future and prepare for it, distinguished teaching, selfless actions, a commitment to community service—someone who possesses integrity, innovation, and leadership. This person must also be passionately concerned with the life of the students and supportive of all facets of the School, and who exhibits courage for the deed and grace for the doing.

Recipients of this year’s award are Kirsten Small, Fred Speers, and Debbie Hoops.

Founders’ Chair Award

The Founders’ Chair Award is bestowed upon a member of the faculty whose teaching abilities, distinction in his or her field, concern for the individual needs of the students, and service to the general life of the School community reflects the principles shared by Shipley’s founders, Hannah, Katherine, and Elizabeth Shipley.

Faculty members of Shipley’s music program were chosen to receive this year’s Founders’ Chair Award. They include Michael Joy, Sue Hoaglund, and Bob Rowland.

Trustee Award for Excellence

The Trustee Award for Excellence is given to members of the faculty, staff, or administration whose commitment to personal growth and support of others in the community represents, reinforces, and fosters the mission of the School. It also acknowledges those who are willing to go beyond the parameters of their job description to benefit the School.

Recipients of this year’s Trustee Award for Excellence are Chris Nelson and Denise Chandler.

Colleague Recognition Award

The Colleague Recognition Award, established in 2002, is given to members of the faculty, staff, and administration to acknowledge a job particularly well done over the course of a year or longer. Recipients are selected from those individuals nominated by their colleagues through the nomination process overseen by the Nominations Committee.

Recipients of this year’s award include Christine Cookish, Melissa Cardona, Jim White, and Emmy Miller.
