Upper School Latin Teacher
The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 870 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, the school is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and a compassionate participation in the world. The Upper School has 340 students in grades 9-12, and a faculty of 60. The Upper School is searching for a high school Latin teacher. The candidate will have a clear educational philosophy which is consistent with the mission of the school. He or she must be creative, energetic, and positive as he or she encourages, instructs and evaluates the students in his or her care. The teacher reports to his or her Division Head and will work closely with the Classics department chairman and other Modern Language department members to create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which his or her students will thrive. Ability to teach in other disciplines and programs is welcome. Teachers have an important role in ongoing curricular work in the Upper School; advising students and attending faculty meetings are part of the job’s duties.
