Shipley Colleagues Attend The Mountain Institute’s 2007 Awards Dinner
Seven Shipley faculty and staff members traveled to Washington D.C. to attend The Mountain Institute’s 2007 Awards Dinner, where Greg Mortenson received an award for Excellence in Educating Mountain Communities.

Shipley colleagues read Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace – One School at a Time this summer. The book tells the story of how Mortenson helped establish 58 schools in the mountainous regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“It was a thrill to be there,” said Lower School teacher Betsy Leschinsky, “there were people from all over the world in attendance.”

Warren Young, Lower School science teacher, was excited to meet Mortenson. “He told us that it is the children who will change the world, and if we can reach and educate them, we will be increasing our chance for peace in the world.”

The Shipley Community is invited to share in a conversation about Three Cups of Tea at the Pizza and Book Chat on Wednesday, November 28 at 5:30 pm in the Upper School Dining Room.  Please email Sandi Richards to RSVP. Get more information about this event.
