Lower School Science Teacher

The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 850 students in grades PreK through 12.  Located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, the school is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and a compassionate participation in the world.  The Lower School has 323 students in grades PreK-5, and a faculty of 61.

The Lower School is currently searching for a Science Teacher.  The candidate will have a clear educational philosophy which is consistent with the mission of the school.  He or she must be creative, energetic, and positive as he or she encourages, instructs and evaluates his or her students.  The Lower School Science Teacher reports to his or her Division Head and works closely with the other science teachers in Lower, Middle and Upper School to create a stimulating and supportive atmosphere and rigorous curriculum in which his or her students will thrive.  Positive, frequent communication with families is essential.  Science Teachers have an important role in admissions work in the Lower School, as we proudly showcase the impressive learning going on in our science lab to prospective families.

The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher of science who possesses a warm and engaging style, a thorough knowledge of the subject matter and appropriate, dynamic curriculum, as well as having excellent communication skills with all constituencies, outstanding classroom management practices, and a sense of humor.  Actively participating in the environmental two-night overnight trips in 4th and 5th grade is expected.  Certification is preferred though not required.

Interested candidates should send (no telephone inquiries, please) a cover letter of interest, statement of educational philosophy and resume to:
