Miracle Quest with Flavia Colgan '95 Premieres on Travel Channel

From the stigmata of Padre Pio in Italy to visions of the Virgin Mary in France, Travel Channel's Miracle Quest takes viewers on an amazing journey to the limits of human understanding. Sixty-nine percent of Americans say they believe in miracles. Religious tourism in Italy alone generates over $4.5 billion each year. The French city of Lourdes attracts more visitors than all the wonders of Egypt because of six crutches that hang on a rusty wire - a symbol of a miracle cure, for those who believe. Miracles are big business.

Take a "front-row seat" as host, Flavia Colgan '95, embarks on a personal quest of discovery. With a sense of adventure and open-minded curiosity, Flavia will examine the theories, question the authorities, and speak with those who have experienced the miraculous first-hand.

The series premiered on March 30th at 8:00 p.m. and is scheduled to air on the following two Fridays.

Episode 1: Italy
Flavia follows in the footsteps of the country's most famous stigmatic, Padre Pio. On her quest for knowledge, she also attempts to uncover what really lies behind the astounding phenomenon known as stigmata, in which individuals experience, physically or emotionally, the suffering of Christ. On her journey, she will also visit the sites of two Eucharistic miracles, to try to understand how the wine given to Catholics during communion can turn into blood and the host into flesh. Divine intervention? The power of mind over matter? Mass hallucination or simple science? All questions Flavia hopes to answer as she travels from the miraculous town of San Giovanni Rotondo to the devoutly religious city of Naples and stops to speak with the faithful and the skeptics along the way.

Episode 2: France
In this episode, our host looks into the many visions of Mary that were reported in France after the French Revolution. Flavia also explores the question of why the Virgin's miraculous appearance in Lourdes more than 150 years ago continues to attract millions of pilgrims from around the world. Were they miraculous visions or hallucinations? Were they the result of children's fervent imaginations? Are the faithful who are healed at Lourdes simply willing themselves back to health, or is the divine at work? As she travels across France, Flavia will attempt to find out what's behind these apparitions of Mary.

Episode 3: United States
Flavia investigates the differences between several unique cultural miracles and uncovers the extraordinary origins behind them. How real are crosses of light and sudden manifestations of Jesus and Mary? Can eating dirt actually heal the sick? Do voodoo miracles extend beyond zombies and dolls? And what does the miraculous birth of a white buffalo mean to Native Americans? Flavia shifts through the improbable and the inexplicable as she explores the land of miracles that isn't so far away.
