Pre-K Learns Colors in Spanish; Spanish IV Honor Students Learn Colors in American Sign Language
“¿Qué color es rojo?” “It’s red.” “What is the American sign [language] for this?” “Green!” It’s not just any day in Spanish IV Honors. It’s the day the Pre-K is visiting. Spanish teacher, Heather Riley, had plans for the young visitors, “We’re going to try to teach the kids colors in Spanish, and then the Pre-Kers will teach our kids the “signs” for colors because they study American sign language.”

Each Honors Spanish student was paired with a Pre-K student and prepared a book for his or her young friend by writing the names of the colors in Spanish on corresponding colored paper. They spent the early part of their visit buddied together, learning the colors and the signs. Then it was time to see if the Pre-Kers had learned their Spanish colors. Not surprisingly, they were quick studies. The young visitors also played a rousing game of Bingo. The names of the colors were called out in Spanish or signed, and the first to get three in a row was a winner. Luckily, all the students were eventually winners so all got stickers to decorate their books.
