On Friday, October 20, the Middle School’s robotics team, the GatorBots, will present their work with the new LEGO MINDSTORMS® NXT Robot at the Franklin Institute’s Family Funfest. Joining robotics teams from Carnegie Mellon and Philadelphia area high schools, the GatorBots will be the only middle school team represented. Demonstrating their work with light, touch, and sonar sensors, the GatorBots hope to illustrate robot behavior and apply what they’ve learned from the LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Education Pilot Program. In July, Shipley was one of fifty-five schools selected from over 600 applicants to receive a grant from LEGO. The GatorBots received robotics equipment in exchange for their feedback about the newly-released NXT Robot and the complementary curriculum developed by Carnegie Mellon.
