2007 National Merit Semifinalists & Commended Students
Nineteen Shipley students were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as either Commended or Semifinalists. Francis Lora was recognized by the College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program for his exceptional academic achievements.

The National Merit competition is based on scores earned in the PSAT. Of the 1.4 million entrants, 50,000 students with the highest scores qualify for recognition. Of those, approximately two-thirds earn Letters of Commendation and one-third qualify as Semifinalists. To be considered as a Finalist for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must meet high academic standards, in addition to other requirements specifically outlined by the National Merit Scholarship Program. About 15,000 Semifinalists advance to Finalist standing in February.
