Mickey Rozans, a sixth grader, decided to do a project at his school in New Orleans to raise money to buy toys for the Tulane Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic where his mother is an oncologist. It was a very successful fundraiser. Then Hurricane Katrina hit and all the toys washed away in the flooding. Mickey and his family have since relocated to the Philadelphia area and Mickey and his brother now attend Shipley, but Mickey couldn’t stop thinking about those toys and those children who had nothing. So, on Fat Tuesday, he and his advisory mates held a fundraiser. Students and faculty wore Mardi Gras colors, yellow, purple, and green, made modest donations, and in return they received beads. The fundraiser was a success, with Middle School students and faculty donating upwards of $630. The money will be used to once again purchase new toys for the clinic.
