The team had four weeks to complete the Final Challenge of the competition after being selected as one of 64 semi-finalists for its work to raise awareness in the local community about the effect of tire pressure on automobile efficiency. (Read the full story.) In the Final Challenge, students were asked to take their work to the national level. The Green Gators focused on making the proper maintenance of tire pressure a standard procedure during service routines at car dealerships. The students met with local and regional representatives from Toyota and then created awareness-raising media kits for Toyota dealerships across the country. The kits, which will be sent in the next couple of weeks, will contain brochures on tire pressure for drivers and a video for service technicians about the importance of measuring and maintaining tire pressure. “Though setting up the initial pieces was difficult,” said Head of Upper School Mark Schoeffel, “the students kept getting the job done at crucial intervals. This competition will help the School focus on green initiatives. It didn’t just put the club on the map, but it helped to get the issues out there.” Get more details about the Green Gators’ Final Challenge efforts on their website.
