The Shipley School begins the academic year with its highest enrollment of 857. Not included in those figures are four students displaced by Hurricane Katrina, who have enrolled at Shipley for the interim.
In addition, Shipley is pleased to announce its new faculty, including four returning alumni: Sarah Mechura ’01 (Upper School math), Andre Brown ’96 (Upper School health), Sarah Yardney ’97 (Upper School Latin), and Wendy Eiteljorg ’86 (5th grade). In Lower School, Christine Cookish and Thom Schauerman join the Kindergarten team. LaVonda Willis, joins the 3rd grade team as a second teacher, and Kareem Smith joins the Pre-K team, also as a second teacher. In Middle School, Derrick McMichael will be teaching math, while Bryan McDermott will teach science. In Upper School, Jacob Hurwitz, Kathleen Glines, and Dan Hawthorn will teach math, and Heather Riley will be teaching Spanish. Maria Haering has joined the School as a Registrar, Margaret Ann Ritter has been appointed the new Director of Annual Giving, and Zoe Marshall joins the Admission Office as Assistant to the Directors.
