Director Of Special Programs And Events

Shipley is a co-ed day school of 875 students in grades pre-K – 12 located in suburban Philadelphia.
Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Director of Special Programs & Events will manage the oversight and implementation of all fundraising and cultivation events and volunteer committees under the External Relations umbrella with the exception of alumni programs with the goal of ensuring that maximum cultivation goals are achieved. This includes the following specific programs, committees and events:

  • Work with the Chair of the Volunteer Forum each year to oversee and facilitate the Volunteer Forum meetings and programs.
  • Oversee and coordinate 75 – 100 member Shipley Shops Committee. Work closely with chairs and other committee members to secure vendors, and corporate sponsors, plan and execute 120 page program book, and execute successfully this annual 3˝ day fundraising and public relations event drawing some 3,000 people to the School.
  • Oversee and coordinate work of 30 – 40 member Casino Night Committee. Work closely with casino night vendor, chairs, and other committee members of this annual event to collect and acknowledge 30 – 40 acquisition items, plan and execute casino program and catalogue, develop and execute both silent and live auction/dinner for this fundraiser attracting 400-500 people.
  • Oversee and coordinate work of 25-30 member Secret Gardens Committee. Work with Chairs and other Committee members to secure gardens and sponsors , orchestrate lunch , develop invitation and map and garden sitters and manage one-day fundraiser that 600-800 people attend each year.
  • Oversee and coordinate work of Fine Arts Committee and work with Chair to plan and execute monthly Gallery exhibitions, receptions (when requested), and trips.
  • Work with Chair of Winter Teas to plan teas for Upper School in the winter months.
  • Plan and execute occasional New York Theatre Trip.
  • Oversee planning and execution of biennial Lower School Grandparents’ Day working with Lower School Administration
  • Support Alumni Director in coordination and execution of Alumni Weekend and other alumni events.
  • Oversee development, planning, and execution of new parent, past parent, former trustee cultivation opportunities

Qualifications:
The position requires strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication, and computer skills.  Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge 7 and independent school culture is an asset. Ability to work some evenings and weekends is required. Availability to start July 1, 2008 or sooner is required.
