Letter from Steve Piltch

Ed Holmes, a member of Shipley’s Physical Plant staff for forty-three years, died on April 2 in Bryn Mawr. Ed first came to Shipley’s housekeeping department in 1964. For generations of faculty, students, and administrators, he did anything and everything: polishing brasses, laying fires, picking up visitors at the airport, hauling cases of paper from one place to another, often up and down several flights of stairs. In the old days, he carried boarders’ trunks. Dedicated to Shipley, he took care of the things that no one even knew existed; above all, he took care of people and their particular needs. He knew everything, remembered everyone, and was a mild-mannered and cheerful friend to all. His death leaves a hole in the Shipley fabric.

Viewing - Saturday (April 7) from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by the Service, The Minus Funeral Home, 204 Lippincott Avenue in Ardmore
Burial will follow at the Rolling Green Cemetery in West Chester.
A light luncheon will be available in Shipley's Avery Silverman Dining Room from approxiamately 1:30-4:00.

Contributions in Eddie’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or to The Shipley School.
