  • Attention Type O donors!

Your help is especially needed for these blood drives.  You may already know this but, you carry the universal blood type.  Everyone can use your blood if they need it.  O blood is used to treat patients in critical need before there is time to determine type specific.  Have you ever watched ER and heard someone yell for 2 more units of O Neg?  They are talking about your blood.  Type O blood is one of the most common blood types but because everyone can use it, it is almost always in the shortest supply.  In fact there is currently less than a 24 hour supply of Type O blood in inventory for hospital patients in the Philadelphia area to use.  Collections are already over hundreds of units below goal from the holidays.  With flu season and possible snowy weather coming in the next few months, we need to make up for all of these lost donations now, before the summer is here and donations drop again.
If you have Type O blood or know someone who does, please sign up to donate or encourage them to do the same.
If you do not have type O blood, please sign-up as well.  Every time you donate blood you could help save the lives of up to 3 hospital patients.

    Tips for donors:

    • Increase your intake of High Iron Foods: Red meats, shellfish, iron fortified cereals, beans, green vegetables, and fruits.
    • Drink more water.
    • Eat a meal before donating blood.

Not sure if you can donate?
