Language Arts Writing Project for Laurels

Due May 30, 2008

For this project you will be creating a ZINE (pronounced zeen). This will be a bound collection of your writing around one topic or idea. You will choose your own topic. Options will be discussed in class.

Your zine will include the following –

_____1.) Cover

Includes a title, author’s name, with graphics or some illustration

_____2. Table of Contents

Includes title, genre, page number of each piece

_____3. Dear Reader letter

Incudes an overview of your zine contents and an explanation of why you chose this topic
Includes your signature

_____4. A PERSONAL NARRATIVE

_____5. A SHORT STORY - a fiction piece

_____6. A POEM, including a properly cited graphic

_____7. Any TWO of the following (your choice, whatever best fits your topic)

            _______ A PERSUASIVE piece

            _______ An EXPOSITORY piece

            _______ A DESCRIPTIVE piece

_____8. AN INTERVIEW –  This will include a little background about the 
            interviewee and why he or she was chosen. It will require 5 – 10 
            questions concerning the topic. You may have more than one interviewee.

Your ZINE will be:

·         Typed on the computer
·         Have numbered pages (goes with your Table of Contents)
·         Proofread for SPELLING, PUNCTUATION and GRAMMAR

You MAY also have:

  • Pictures (hand-drawn) or additional graphics, properly cited
  • Jokes or cartoons (original or from some other sources)
  • Photos
  • *Some parts of this project will be completed in the Computer Lab where you will focus on formatting and editing skills in addition to printing, saving and proper citing procedures.
