MS NEWS:

 

MS BOOK FAIR – MS Resource Room, West Middle School - volunteers needed – sign up online

·         Look for the 2008-2009 MS Summer Reading for grades 6, 7 which will be sent home with students early in May. 

·         The 9th grade summer reading requirements will be sent home with current 8th grade student also in early May. The MS Summer Reading is now available online.  Download MS Summer Reading>>> (PDF)

·         Reusable Bags - For the first time ever, Shipley is offering reusable shopping bags with the Shipley logo. They are available at the MS Book Fair. Support the effort to help the environment. GO GATORS. GO GREEN!!

ANNUAL ART FESTIVAL/INTERNATIONAL DINNER – is on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - Main dishes will be provided by the school. As a requirement for their country project, 7th grade French and Spanish, students have been asked to make a side dish or a dessert that represents their respective project country.  Dishes should be brought to school to the Avery Silverman cafeteria on the morning of May 15th or after school.   

A schedule of the evening follows:

·         4:30p - 7:00p     Art Exhibit

·         5:00p - 6:45p     Family International Buffet Dinner – Download Dish Preparation Info>>> PDF

·         Until 6:45p         MS Book Fair

·         7:00p - 8:00p     Concert in Goodhart Hall

                            Students should be in Goodhart Hall at 6:45pm.

    Students should go directly to their assigned seats.

    Students who are performing are required to attend

    and should wear their SCHOOL UNIFORM.

    Girls - white collared shirts; kilts; khaki or blue slacks;

    Boys - white collared shirts and khaki or blue slacks;

    ALL  -NO SNEAKERS AND NO SHORTS - PLEASE

 

8TH GRADE HEALTH/WELLNESS WORKSHOP - On May 20th the 8th grade students will participate in a workshop led by Andy Mozenter, an educational consultation, on bullying and various forms of harassment, issues increasingly prominent in the world these days.  If you have questions about this upcoming event, please contact Helen Hamlet.

 

AWARD WINNERS AT THE 2008 LATIN WEEK COMPETITION:  Congratulations!  6th Grade students recognized in the PHILADELPHIA CLASSICAL SOCIETY 2008 Latin Week Competition can be viewed on the Shipley website.  6th Grade Latin Winners>>> (PDF)    

 

8TH GRADE FAMILIES – REMINDER – Please remember to send in the class dues of $35, which helps defray the costs of the 8th students end-of-year events.  Checks should be made payable to The Shipley School and brought the MS front desk.  Thank you.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL - dress down day was moved to Friday, May 16th (not May 9th) with the cookout and MS Dance following. This is a free, (no $) dress down day sponsored by the MS Student Council to recognize and thank the students for their support all year. The cookout will be in the quad, outside of Avery Silverman Dining Room, followed that evening by the MS Dance at the LS old gym.

MS Dance:        Friday, May 16, 7:30p to 10:00p

Donation:          $5.00

 

7TH GRADE WHITEWATER RAFTING TRIP – Buses leave Shipley at 7:45am on the morning of Friday, May 30, and return to Shipley at approximately 4:00pm.  Please return permission forms as soon as possible.

Go Spring Shopping and Support Your School -- Special Shopping Opportunity at Smith & Hawken!
Please join us for a special shopping day on Friday, May 23rd.  Our local Smith & Hawken store (located in Bryn Mawr at 1225 Montrose Avenue) has kindly agreed to offer Shipley families a 10% discount on all purchases made that evening between the hours of 3:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Simply mention that you are part of the Shipley community to receive this discount. In addition, 10% of all sales that evening will be donated to The Shipley School. 

 

SECRET GARDENS - Spring is almost here! The Shipley Secret Gardens tour is scheduled for May 14th from 9:30 - 4:30. Interested in getting becoming a garden guide?
