The Community Has Heart Raising $15,500 for Tsunami Victims with More Money Still Coming In

In an outpouring of support for victims of the tsunami in Asia and Africa, the Shipley service coordinators organized a fundraiser on Friday, January 07, 2005. Usually students are offered something like a dress down from uniform day or pizza in return for contributions. This time, in exchange for their donations, students received small metallic hearts, showing that they “Have Heart.” The all-school community, Pre-K – 12, staff, and teachers raised well over $15,000 for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. As students arrived in their classrooms and homerooms they turned in their donations to their teachers. When the numbers were tallied, all one could do was be amazed at the generosity of those who hope to make a difference in the lives of others hurting half a world away.
