Zahn Exhibiting Woodblocks and Japanese Stencil Dyeing from February 14-March 24, 2005

Julie Zahn will be exhibiting woodblock prints and Japanese stencil dyeing (katazome) prints in the Speer Gallery from February 14-March 24, 2005. Ms. Zahn's work abounds in imagery from garden life, ocean landscapes, and the figure.
After graduating from college, Ms. Zahn went to Japan for a couple of years to teach English. There she drew and painted the landscape in her free time. She returned to the U.S. to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and then went back to Japan for a year to study printmaking after winning a travel scholarship. She continues to work and teach in her studio in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia and spends time every summer painting in Maine. Ms. Zahn has had selected exhibitions at many galleries and in many shows, including most recently the William Penn Charter Juried Art Show (November 2001, 2003) and the Philadelphia Open Studio Tours for 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Her work is also on display in a number of public collections including: ARCO Chemical Company; Bell of PA; Duane, Morris & Heckscher, PC; Bryn Mawr College; Kohn, Swift & Graf, PC; The Franklin Mint; and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
