Shipley Crew Takes Gold & Silver at Head of the Christina
On Sunday, October 2, the Shipley crew team raced for the first time this fall in cold, drizzly conditions in Wilmington, DE at the Head of the Christina. The first two boats to compete were the Boys’ Varsity Doubles. Derek McAvoy and Max Reisser placed first and Greg Dadourian and Nathan Markowitz placed second in the event, making it the second year in a row Shipley has won the Boys’ Double at this race.
Next to race were the Girls’ Varsity Doubles. Zoe Deutsch and Linna Li took the gold medal, Carolynne McKenna and Elisa Mirkil took the silver, and Lauren Semerjian and Meredith Mason finished in fifth place. This is also the second year in a row that Shipley has won this event.
Marc Molta was next to race in the single, placing second in his event. The JV Boys’ Eight was Shipley’s final race of the day, with Alexa Gordon, Henry Goodhart, Max Reisser, Jack Ryan, Nathan Markowitz, Will Verdeur, Mike Schwartz, Derek McAvoy, and Greg Dadourian. They finished this very competitive event in a very respectable sixth place.
The crew team races again this coming weekend, first at the Navy Day Regatta on their home course of the Schuylkill, and then in Bridgeport, PA at the King's Head Regatta.
