Beechwood
Has a reception and meeting room on the first floor. On the Lower Campus on the corner of Montgomery Avenue and Roberts Road.

Brain Tree Primary School
Shipley’s sister school in Uganda, which we support.

Brownell House
Has meeting rooms on the first floor — the Board Room and Living Room — and the offices of External Relations on the second and third floors. Named for Principal Eleanor Brownell (1916-1942). On the Upper Campus at the corner of Morris Avenue and Yarrow Street.

Class Night
The Wednesday evening before Commencement, includes a reception for the exhibit of works by Senior Art Majors and a program of citations for each graduating student. Held in Riely Theatre.

Common Rooms
On the Upper Campus, the room at the southeast corner of the main old schoolhouse. Originally a kind of "living room" for boarding students, it is now used for meetings and occasional gatherings such as Winter Teas.
On the Lower Campus there are 2 Common Rooms, one on each floor of the main classroom wing. They are used for special projects, programs with speakers, gatherings of more than one class, and after-school clubs.

Dress-Down Day
A day when the dress code is relaxed. Special rules apply in each division. They occur periodically throughout the year. Often they are charity fundraisers.

Encore Clubs
Special activity clubs, part of the Lower School Later Gator after-school program.

The Farm
The Shipley playing fields at the corner of Youngsford and Waverly Roads in Gladwyne. The property was at one time a working farm owned by Shipley Principals Eleanor Howland and Alice Brownell (1916-1942), and provided produce and dairy products for meals at the School.

Fuller Fields
The playing field on the Upper Campus.

Howland House
Part of the Lower School complex, houses PreK and Kindergarten. Named for Principal Alice Howland (1916-1942). On the corner of Wyndon Avenue and Roberts Road.

Later Gator
The Lower School after-school program.

Lowrey Room
A room on the first floor of the main Upper School classroom building, used for study halls, meetings, and book sales. Named for Elsie Lowrey, Dean from 1909 to 1945.

Madrigals
Shipley's girls' a cappella singing group (Upper School).

Madriguys
Shipley's boys' a cappella singing group (Upper School).

Senior Service Projects
A four-week period at the end of the year during which seniors work for non-profit organizations and prepare reports on their experience. A requirement for graduation.

Service Fridays
A once-a-month Middle School activity, whereby students spend half the day doing service activities at various locations around the area.

Silverman
The Avery Silverman Dining Room extension to the main Upper Campus dining room.

SOS
Students Organized for Service, an Upper School activity.

Speer Wing, Library, Gallery
Area of the Upper School named for Margaret Bailey Speer, Headmistress from 1944 to 1965. Includes the Speer Gallery, where a rotating series of art shows is hung.

Spring Thing
An activity, usually on a Saturday in April, that involves planting and landscape cleanup on the Shipley campus and at other locations.

Super Saturday
A combination find-raising carnival and sports event usually held on the last Saturday in September.

Winter Teas
Gatherings after classes in the Upper School Common Room during the winter term for Upper School students and faculty. Food is provided by volunteers.

Yarnall Gymnasium
The main gym on the Upper Campus, named for Hester Yarnall, long-time Head of the Athletics Department. Entry is from Montgomery Avenue side.
