Shipley Pugilist Devin Gage Knocks Out the Competition
In a boxing match reminiscent of a Mike Tyson 1st round knockout fight from the former champ’s prime in the 1980s, The Shipley School’s Devin Gage took to the ring at Kahunaville on the riverfront in Wilmington, DE.

Devin stepped into the ring for the first time on Friday, October 27 in front of a rowdy local Delaware crowd, with Shipley students, staff, and parents to help cheer him on.

In a one-sided fight, Devin used skills that he had acquired in his three months of training as a boxer. Devin is receiving Independent Sports credits through the Upper School PE/Athletics department for his fall boxing training. Working out a minimum of four hours per week with his trainer, his goal was this first fight at Kahunaville in Delaware.

Much to Devin’s disappointment, his opponent decided to fight more of a wrestling match than a boxing match. During the first few seconds of the match, Devin’s opposition tried to tackle him into the ropes, but Devin forced him off with a few hooks and stiff jabs to the face. Devin’s opponent stopped and walked away from him, thinking he heard the bell. The dazed boxer’s corner motioned him back into the ring and he tried to wrestle Devin, who countered with some jabs then ducked under two counter punches, spinning out and nailing his opponent with a hard left hand. The opposing boxer walked to his corner, spit out his mouthpiece, and gave up. The fight lasted 45 seconds.

A knockout for Devin Gage’s first fight!
