On Thursday, April 10, The Shipley School senior co-captain John Hird (Phoenixville, PA) signed his letter of intent to play NCAA Div. I Men’s Lacrosse at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY.
Next Fall Hird will be playing for the Seahawks and Coach Jason Rife as the first Shipley boys’ lacrosse player ever to sign a NCAA Div. I Letter of Intent. Hird is Shipley’s all-time leading goal scorer with 146 career goals. He entered his senior year with 131 goals and has added 15 goals and 13 assists this spring to be the Gators’ top threat again, as well as the team’s top face-off man. A four-year starter on attack and midfield, as well as a three-time 1st team All-NE League and two-time 1st Team All FSL selection, Hird helped lead Shipley to their first-ever Northeast League title in 2006 with a 15-3 record and an EPSLA state playoff appearance. In 2006, Hird was once again a key factor in attainting Shipley’s 1st Friends Schools League title during the team’s first year in the league. The Gators finished 16-4 in his sophomore year. Hird has averaged over 40 goals a season for his first three years at Shipley and is on track to match or break that mark this spring. Hird was also 1st team All-Main Line in 2007 as he led the Gators to a 10-6 mark and the FSL Semi-Finals.
