Shipley Girls’ and Boys’ Swim Teams Win First League Meet of Season
Shipley boys’ and girls’ swim teams competed in their first league meet of the season vs. Abington Friends at Cabrini College’s pool on Tuesday, January 8.

Abington Friends has just re-established their swim program so their teams were small: just eight girls and four boys. Shipley’s greater depth allowed them to win both meets easily. The girls won 74-50, and the boys won 77-60.

Abington had only four boys, but they were very strong and captured first in most of the events. Sophomore Sam Snider won the 500 free and junior Danny Bedrossian won the 100 breast.

Shipley’s girls won most of the events, including all three relays. Sophomore Kelly Sullivan took first in the 500 free. She also won the 50 free and anchored both free relays. Senior Laura Butera also won four events: the 200 free, the 100 fly, and was a member of the medley and 400 free relays. Senior Emily Butera just out-touched an Abington swimmer for first in the 100 back. Emily was also on both free relays. Other members of winning relays were senior Alice Clark (medley), junior Kayleigh Butera (medley and 200 FR) and sophomore Jen Smith (medley and 400 FR).

The boys’ and girls’ next meet is Tuesday, January 22 vs. Westtown at Cabrini College.
