Shipley’s Eli Branzburg Awarded LMLL Student Scholarship
The Lower Merion Little League recently awarded its annual LMLL Student Scholarship Award to Eli Branzburg, a senior at The Shipley School. The award is given each year to a high school senior who played in Lower Merion Little League and has continued to play baseball with a love and passion for the game. Eli received the $1,000 scholarship award during the League’s annual Coaches' Dinner.

“On the field of baseball, Eli Branzburg’s work ethic is second to none,” Award presenter Stu Lundy told the 120 coaches and guests who attended the dinner. “All of his coaches – from little league to high school and Legion baseball – have appreciated Eli’s total dedication to the game and his desire and determination to be a team leader.”

Eli has been the starting catcher for The Shipley School since his freshman year and has been selected as a captain for the 2007 season. He was named to the 1st Team All Main Line Team and 1st Team All Conference Team in 2005 and 2006. Eli has hit .441 and .406 respectively for the last two years. He is also a member of the Wayne American Senior Legion team.

Upon receiving the award, Eli told the coaches and guests that, “I am a product of Lower Merion Little League, having started in T-Ball and going through Juniors. I owe so much to Lower Merion baseball because as Yogi Berra once said, "I think Little League is wonderful. It keeps the kids out of the house and parents off the streets."  It certainly kept me out of the house and I am thankful for that.  I’d like to thank my parents and my coaches for encouraging me to stick with the sport that I love to play. And I’d like to thank Lower Merion Little League for this tremendous honor.”

Eli Branzburg plans to play baseball at Muhlenberg College next year.
