Shipley Moves to FSL Finals in Girls’ Lacrosse, Softball, and Boys’ Tennis

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Semi-Finals

The Shipley girls’ lacrosse team (11-4-1 overall, 6-2 FSL) overcame a 13-5 deficit at halftime to rally to beat Westtown 20-17 in an amazing show of team strength and willpower by the Gator girls. Freshman goalie, Ali Piltch, stepped into the net to start the second half of play and turned in a stellar performance, turning away 3 shots and only allowing 4 goals to lay the foundation for the offense’s comeback. Senior Brooke Stokes set the Gators on the right path to victory by winning the majority of the draws. Senior Helen McCann and junior Leigh Ann Quill both had clutch goals to add to senior Rae Goldstein’s 6 goals and junior Jess Rosenbluth’s 5 goals. The girls take on Friends’ Central at Friends’ Central on Friday, May 18 at 4:00 pm.

Softball Semi-Finals

Westtown- 0

The Shipley girls improved to 11-5 and 10-1 in FSL play as they shut out visiting Westtown 16-0
in the FSL Semi-Final game.

Junior Jess Iacobucci and sophomore Adrienne Drummond shared a no-hit shut-out. It was almost a perfect game, except for one error in the 4th inning. Iacobucci pitched 4 innings with 9 K’s and 0 walks. Drummond was also perfect with the exception of one inning, striking out the side and giving up no walks.

Hitting well for Shipley were sophomore Rebecca Yuska (BA .542, 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s), senior Aly Mason (who bunted and slapped her way on 2 out of 3 at-bats and drew a walk with 2 stolen bases), Iacobucci (2 for 3, with 4 RBI’s), senior Alex King (who was hit twice by a pitch and went 1 for 2 with a single), sophomore Julia Schwarz (3 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI’s), and senior Kelly Waldron (2 for 2 with 3 runs scored on a sac, 1 walk and a triple, and 2 RBI’s).

Shipley plays host to the George School for the FSL Championship title on Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 am on Fuller 2.


Boys’ Tennis Semi- Finals

Abington Friends- 2

The Shipley boys’ varsity tennis team picked up a crucial win in their FSL Semi-Final match on Tuesday, May 15 over opponent Abington Friends School. The Shipley Gators now improve to 6-2 in FSL play and 8-6 overall.

It was an extremely close match throughout, with two of the matches going three sets. All three singles players came up huge for the team and won, giving Shipley the three wins they needed to beat out AFS 3-2.

With all four of the other matches over, leaving the score tied at 2-2, attention turned to 3rd singles player Steve Warner, who was headed into his third set after splitting the first two (6-2, 7-6). Steve had a rough start during the third set, but was eventually able to build some momentum as he took the set 6-2, sealing the win for Shipley.

The Shipley Gators advance to the FSL Team Finals against Friends’ Central on Thursday, May 17 at Friends’ Central at 4:00 pm.
