Shipley Girls’ Volleyball Serves Up 7th Win
On Friday, February 2, the Shipley girl’s varsity volleyball team swept Springside with a stunning victory 3-0 (25-12; 25-10; 25-16). The girls dominated the game, scoring ace after ace and shutting out all Springside opposition.

In the first match, the Gators came out with full force, overpowering Springside with a series of aces and cunning tips. Springside tensed up in the face of Shipley’s strong attacks, letting the Gators easily pocket the successive match. Though Springside fought hard to regain the lost ground, they could not catch up to Shipley’s magnificent lead.

Seniors Stevie Snyder and Jen Haas played an intense game. Snyder scored 5 aces, 5 kills, and 3 digs, while Haas contributed another 4 aces to the attack. Junior Christina Zipf and Freshmen Jess Stokes and Jen Nichols kept up the tension on the court. All members of the team played extremely well, working together to secure a win in the last home game of the season.

Coaches Marta Mielcarz ’95 and Susan King presented the senior players and managers with flowers in honor of their contributions to the team. Those recognized were: varsity Co-Captain Alice Bosley, varsity Co-Captain Julia Drake, varsity player Jenn Haas, varsity player Stevie Snyder, junior varsity player Joy Tao, junior varsity Co-Captain Camilla Carlini, junior varsity manager Carolyn Brown, and junior varsity manager Coeli Worrall.

Varsity coach Marta Mielcarz commented after the game, “I am very happy with how the season went. As evident in our domination over Springside, we improved greatly. I got a lot of great help from all four seniors and we will be sad to lose them.”

The varsity volleyball team currently sports a record of 7-5. Their next game is away against AIS on Tuesday, February 6. Come out to cheer them on!
