Shipley’s Laura Butera led the girls and set two School records. The team of Laura Butera, Lucy Paschos, Emily Butera, and Kelly Sullivan set a mark of 2:07.4 in the 200 medley relay. Elizabeth Maltz joined Laura Butera, Emily Butera, and Kelly Sullivan to capture 3rd place in the 400 free relay and set a new School record of 4:17.5. Paschos also beat her own School record in the 100 breast by almost 2 seconds, finishing at 1:18.6. Kelly Sullivan tied the school record of 28.1 in the 50 free. Top place finishers for the Gator girls: Shipley senior co-captain Terrel Adams led the boys by capturing 1st place in the 100 free and setting two school records. His 100 free time of 50.4 broke John Kearney’s (current Lehigh University swimmer) 2004 record of 51.2. Adams also teamed up with Alex Iozzo, Ian Dombroski, and Mike Armstrong to set a new school record of 1:41.5 in the 200 free relay. The team of Adams, Iozzo, Dombroski, and Danny Costanza captured 2nd place in the 400 free relay. Shipley’s Danny Costanza swam his best time in the 500 free and captured 2nd place. However, he was disqualified for moving slightly forward on the block at the time of the start. The third place swimmer was about 5 seconds behind Costanza. Top place finishers for the Gator boys: Other notable swims: Kayleigh Butera dropped 3 seconds off her 200 free and 100 breast times. Shipley’s Sam Snider dropped 4 seconds off his 100 free time. Mike Armstrong dropped 11 seconds off his 200 free time, and 5 seconds off his 100 fly time. Ian Dombroski broke 1 minute in the 100 free. Zach Freilich trimmed 20 seconds off his 500 free time. Brendan Pailet dropped 16 seconds off his 500 free time. Shipley will send six girls and one boy to compete in the Easterns this Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, being held at LaSalle.
