Girls' Volleyball Advances to Championship The Shipley girls’ volleyball team increased their record to 13-2 after they beat Germantown Academy for the third time this season to advance to the Independent Schools League Championship on Thursday, February 14. Individual game scores were 25-20, 25-16, and 25-19.
Freshman JB Loomis had 11 kills, a 0.212 hitting percentage, 10 digs, and 2 aces. Senior co-captain Christina Zipf had 10 digs, 13 assists, and 2 aces. Sophomores Jennifer Nichols and Jess Stokes had 7 and 8 digs respectively, and senior Katie Flowers added 5 digs. The girls will look to capture the championship on Thursday, February 14, when they travel to first-place Agnes Irwin’s court.
Leading the way for the Gators were junior Alex Lennon with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocks, and sophomore Brianna Ross who had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Germantown Friends School also won on Wednesday in their semi-final game against visiting Friends Central, 50-40. Shipley will take on Germantown Friends for the FSL Championship title on Friday, February 15 at Haverford College @ 8:30 p.m., when the Gators hope to repeat their 60-54 victory over GFS from earlier in the season.
