The Shipley boys’ varsity basketball team began their season with a win over The Christian Academy on Tuesday, November 27.
The Gators came out strong in the beginning of the game and ended the first quarter with a 19-6 lead over TCA behind the aggressive play of senior Aaron Summers and solid team defense. The Gators continued with strong defensive play throughout the second quarter, giving up only 7 more points. They ended the half 42-13. After three quarters, Shipley led 57-26. Shipley gave up 25 points in the fourth quarter but kept the lead and came out victorious with a final score of Shipley 64, TCA 51. Sophomore Armand Leaks led the Gators with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Senior David Balderston totaled 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman Bakari White also scored in double figures, adding 11 points. The boys next take the court on Friday, November 30, as they take on Kennedy-Kenrick in the 3rd Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament at Shipley.
