The Shipley softball team has not lost a game since March, when they traveled to Disney for Spring Training. The Gators are now 10-3 and 5-0 in the FSL with a 15-0 win over Westtown on Friday, April 18. This victory extends the Gators’ winning streak to 8 games and keeps them undefeated in the Friends Schools League.
Junior Adrienne Drummond was nearly perfect, striking out 11 batters and giving up only 3 hits in the victory. Scoring for the Gators began in the 1st inning, with freshman Olivia Powers drawing a walk; she would also steal 2nd. Sophomore Jenn Nichols would reach base on a throwing error. Junior Julia Schwartz would record 2 RBIs on a fielders choice, giving the Gators a 2-0 lead. Freshman Lauren Touey hit a single, stole a base, and scored a run on a pass ball. Junior Ginny Wheeler would also hit a single, steal a base, and score a run off an RBI from senior captain Rebecca Yuska. The scoring continued in the third inning with a single from Nichols, a double from Schwartz, a triple from Drummond, a solo homerun from Touey, and a single from Wheeler, with each one of those batters scoring. To finish off the scoring, Yuska hit an RBI single. Both Wheeler and Touey would go a perfect 4-4 at the plate, scoring a combined five runs, with three RBIs between the two of them. The scoring continued in the 4th with Schwartz, Drummond, Iacobucci, and Touey all scoring runs. In the 5th, Nichols and Schwartz would both score runs in the Gator victory.
