Shipley-13 Westtown-1
Shipley (9-5 overall, 5-2 FSL) has been on a huge winning streak (5-0 last week), winning their last three games by margins as large as nineteen runs. The streak continued as Shipley scored 13 runs against Westtown. First to score was Shipley’s Eli Branzburg with a triple. Aided by a Westtown error, Eli was able to make it home. Pitchers Harrison Keiser and Henry Inman were able to keep Westtown to only 4 hits and 1 run, coming up short against Shipley’s 12 hits and 13 runs.
During the 20-minute break between the first and second games at Westtown, something changed on the Westtown bench. Shipley went without a run or a hit in the first inning, whereas Westtown was able to put up 2 runs. Shipley scored 4 unanswered runs in the following innings and jumped into short-lived lead. Westtown scored two more runs in the fifth inning, tying the game at 4-4. The sixth inning proved scoreless, with only 1 hit from each team. Fortunately, Shipley pitcher Sam Frey was able to keep Westtown from scoring in the top of the seventh inning. Gators power hitters Devin Gage and Eli Branzburg were able to seal the game a Shipley victory, each getting on base. Westtown walked Sam Frey with the bases loaded to end the game.
