Seniors Dave Balderston and Dakota Carroll were honored at a reception on Sunday, April 27, recognizing them as the Seventh Congressional District Scholar-Athletes of The Shipley School for this academic year.
This program recognizes one male and one female student from each educational institution in this District who best exemplify the selfless dedication to academia and sports that help define the leaders of tomorrow. Dave has played basketball and baseball for the past four years and picked up cross country as a senior. He has been selected to the All-Main Line 1st team for both basketball and baseball for the past two years, as well as being an All-Friends League Honorable Mention selection. Dave was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams for his junior and senior years and is in the middle of his senior baseball campaign. Dakota has played soccer for the past four years at Shipley, and was a captain of the team in 2008. Dakota has received 1st team league honors since her freshman year, and was selected to All-Main Line 1st or 2nd teams each of her years here. As a sophomore, Dakota started playing softball for The Shipley School and was an All-Main Line Honorable Mention selection in 2006 and 2007. She is currently in her third season with the Gators and, as a tri-captain, is leading the team to what will hopefully be another Friends League title.
