Boys' Tennis 6-1 Overall; Undefeated in the Friends Schools League
Shipley's boys' tennis team (6-1, 2-0 FSL) picked up their fourth straight victory on Friday, April 18, by defeating league rival Westtown.

All four wins, including 2 league victories, came in one week starting Friday, April 11, when Shipley swept Phelps 5-0. The Gators won this match early on with comfortable wins from 1st singles, and 1st and 2nd doubles. Senior Steve Warner, who is usually 3rd singles, was playing up at 2nd single. He managed to pull out a great win as he was made to work the entire match. Sophomore Jay Donahue, playing at 3rd singles, played well and showed improved maturity to win in a very close contest.

The team then had back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14 and 15, versus Moorestown Friends and The School at Church Farm.

Shipley beat Moorestown Friends in a close league match by a score of 3-2.

#1 Singles Vivek Stalam won 2-1
#2 Singles Jon Thaler won 2-0
#3 Singles Jay Donahue lost 1-2

#1 Doubles Zack Laskin & Chris Henry won 2-0
#2 Doubles Francis Lora & Colin Chapin lost 1-2

The School at Church Farm was not as close, Shipley won 4-1.

#1 Singles Vivek Stalam won 2-0
#2 Singles Jon Thaler won 2-0
#3 Singles Jay Donahue lost 0-2

#1 Doubles Zach Laskin & Chris Henry won 2-0
#2 Doubles Francis Lora & Colin Chapin won 2-0

On Friday, April 18, the boys won 3-2 in another close league match against Westtown.

Shipley's 1st & 2nd singles once again had no trouble winning their matches. The 3rd singles made a slow start and was able to raise his game in the second set, only to lose it 7 – 4 in a very close tie-breaker.

Though they made a very strong start by winning the first set comfortably, the 1st doubles lost focus at the start of the second set, to end up down 4 games to 2. They showed a lot of determination to bring it back to 6 all and prevailed 7 – 4 in the tie-breaker to save going to a 3rd set.
