Four area teams gathered for the 7th annual Toys for Tots Girls' Basketball Tournament hosted by The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr on December 7 and 8. Over two nights the high school teams played four games as toys and donations were collected as admission.
On Friday, Penn Wood played against Academy Park, falling behind quickly in the first quarter. Penn Wood rallied starting in the second quarter and never looked back during their 51-35 victory. Shipley’s girls played a similar game against Lawrenceville, falling behind 18-7 early in the game before dominating mid- and late-game play to a 67-46 victory. Shipley was led by strong performances from juniors Alex Davis and Alex Lennon.
In the championship match, Shipley beat Penn Wood in a very tight match, 52-45. Shipley juniors Alex Lennon and Alisha Fairfax received co-MVP awards. After the championship match, Shipley presented a representative of the Marine Corps with a check for over $250, as well as two boxes full of unwrapped presents. by Eric Handler ’06
